Take a look at the quote below, with this strategy you will rock the first location. Before entering the mission, press X in the World Map to open the squad selection menu and select the heros as I mention:

There are tons of different strategies you can use. For example, in Royal Gardens I use to play with the following formation: (1) Oniki, (2) Krauser, (3) Dark_M and (4) Headshot (is the formation you can see in the last image of the initial post). I form a line with the first three and put Headshot behind Krauser. As Headshot has a wide action range, I cover Krauser and Oniki when they have low HP, and in the same way I cover Headshot from direct attacks. As Dark_M has a lot of defense, it can take care of itself alone, so I forget about it during the battle. The same strategy can be used replacing Krauser by Nightmare or Shadow, but in this particulary map I prefer Krauser because he reaches Trance state sooner (and triples his attack!!!) so I can use him during his Trance to beat the Evil (purple) Onikis. Take note that each mission takes a different approach so maybe this formation is not the best to use in other locations. Only the practice will allow you to know what heros you must select in each mission!!

Along with Royal Gardens there are two other initial missions if you want to test them: "Secret Cave" and "Imperial Ship". You can "navigate to them" by pressing the left/right cursor in the Wold Map. After reaching +40,000 points among the three initial missions you will unlock two more missions. There are 8 missions in total (I will create new begginer missions in future releases).

Tiny update for anyone that still plays this, version 1.33 has now been submitted and it fixes a very annoying bug (otto spawn timer was not reset correctly after game over when playing a new game.)

What a lovely piece of work this is! I was so pleased to see it finally made a release. Personally I reckon it would be great if someone could add an end sequence and maybe a persistent high-score.

Steve, I have to say that the level of polish on this game really stands out. It's so very slick and plays really well. And, man alive, it's addictive!

Yes he stopped using Fuze, a huge shame as he was really nice and his games were so cool. it's a shame he removed them all.

Back in the late 70's MB Games came out with a weird Chess Tutor thing and yes I bought it. What it was, was a chessboard that had a transparent top and underneath there was a stack of A4 (or thereabouts) sheets and it taught you how to play, like starting with something ultra simple like how a pawn moves, that sheet would show you where to place the pieces and how they move. You went from sheet to sheet, placing pieces and learning their movements.

Save / Load / Reset high score table Configurable and saveable input More enemy types Maybe some background stars (I don't want an actual background, it's meant to be 80's arcade) Maybe some "thump, thump" level sound A suprise mode.

But I'll only add these things if and when I have the inspiration to do them justice and deliver them.

Small update:

There was a spelling error in the credits (I probably accidentally typed on the Switch when I meant to type on the computer) Since I updated the code anyway, added an option: shuffle intensity (slider value: 0 = start with sorted deck; 1040 = start with intensely shuffled deck).

If you want to use a seed to play the same deck of cards, you need to set the shuffle intensity value to the same value as well to end up with the same deck of cards. To replay seeds from before this update, you need to put the slider value to the max 1040 shuffle intensity (hence the weird max value, for seed backwards compatibility).

EDIT (9 july 2020):
I shared a new version with a few minor updates:

Show version number on screen in menu (now "v1.0.1") Show configured shuffle intensity when the seed is shown Draw size is now 1 by default (in stead of 3), and can also be set to 2.

Great news! I am looking forward to it!

I really did not want to change anything anymore, because it was working. But: it felt like the scrolling was jerky in undocked state. So, I was starring at that setMode() and thought: friend or enemy? Usually friend, because it allows careless use of fix coordinate values, but here, I had to get along without it.
Because when I removed it the 3D refresh on the undocked switch became smooth, ok the text around and the title screen was a mess and undocking during the loading screen was a disaster, but the 3D scrolling was perfect.😅 Further more interesting was for me the fact, that setMode() has no effect on 3D (probably this was very obvious for you). Undocking/docking just works in 3D - no scaling needed, no view change needed!
So, I applied a scaling technique based on @Martin 's suggestion in another post. Thanks! ...and finally done.
