FUZE 2020 Advent Calendar
-
So first, I'm pretty sure the concept of an Advent Calendar is best-known in European countries, and not so much in the US (or maybe you all know what it is, and the next paragraph is highly unnecessary haha)
Basically it's a custom that celebrates the time leading up to Christmas. It is usually a box that contains all kinds of cool stuff, like chocolate or anything you could think of. Starting on December 1st, you unpack one item each day, up until Christmas Day.
My idea was turning this concept into a FUZE Advent Calendar: Starting on Tuesday, I'll select a different FUZE game every day that I think is cool and needs to be highlighted again as we approach the end of 2020. Of course I'll also give some context as to why I think that game is so good. My hope is that as many people as possible play these games once more and spread some positivity! There are so many great things people have created, I can't wait to revisit some of that tasty stuff
Note: In this Advent Calendar, I use a certain set of awesome little Christmas-themed images.

I love it, great idea!

Wow... been gathering a lot of FUZE games today, and I found 100 (!!) games from about 40 different people! All of these are fun and worthwhile, so it's just a matter of choosing 25 at this point

We're starting on a real high note here - it's not only its gameplay and the arcade-like sound effects, but have you seen how it looks? Aesthetic is an understatement!
It has that polished vibe to it - also, the intro is perfect and there is a "replay intro" button. Flawless. -
That's a great choice! I feel like spikey released it with very little fanfare, and it definitely didn't get the appreciation it deserves...
Also, there are way too few multiplayer games in Fuze, and to have support for 18 simultaneous players is just beyond awesome!A really lovely homage to a time even before 8-bit graphics. Very polished, and great that spikey keeps supporting it with updates and new features.
-
Great choice - I loved the look of it when it was first posted but never gave it a go. It's deceptively difficult! I beat the first level, score 996. Lovely sound as well!
-
Good pick and it gives me a nice excuse to play it again!

You are too kind guys and thanks @CasualTie5. I was never part of an Advent Calendar before ๐ This piece means a lot to me and I was really hoping to catch some of the spirit connected to it. Maybe just one technical side note: it was the first time, I was trying to find out, why some layouts are looking good and others somehow don't work. So, I learnt about the three-thirds rule and the golden ratio. But I guess to master this, you need somebody telling you with a lot of experiences. But at least I tried it out and somehow it seemed to work kind of - hopefully - maybe
Hint: if it takes you too long to clear the levels, choose Splitted Joy-Con mode and 2 players, then you can move two Smack Mans with one Joy-Con.

A perfect Game Jam game! That means it is quite a straightforward experience - but in a positive way. It doesn't need any context or framework, it is just a game. The whole thing with the two players may be confusing at first, but it's an awesome gameplay concept when it comes down to it.

There is nothing else like this on FUZE - it's an idea that doesn't come to mind until someone executes it. The remarkable part is that it actually works; not necessarily as a workout, but rather as a game with Motion Controls. Not to mention that this is fun!
And you can get the full experience when putting one joy con into that Ring Fit Adventure leg strap, which actually does make it seem like a workout in some regard. -
Thanks for featuring my game!
It is one of the games Iโm most proud of, and my original game jam entry made for a very fun game jam stream with Dave punching and kicking all over the place! ๐
Just a small clarification: you canโt actually use the ring-con to control my game, only the leg strap! Sorry for the confusion!
-
@vinicity okay, must have misread it then. Still clever to advise use of the leg strap, it makes perfect sense!
-
Fun fact: the song selection menu was inspired by the old Dance Dance Revolution games I used to play on my Dreamcast back in the days!
-
Well I have a few days off work and if thereโs one thing I donโt want to do physically, itโs anything - so I didnโt fit to my leg strap.
Completed all three start levels, high score 195. Just amazing that this was originally a game jam entry! Truly jaw-dropping stuff. The menu screen alone is crazy impressive.
(Thanks btw for choosing my game and your very kind words! My entries will always be simple and silly...) -

Yet another Game Jam entry, and this is far from being the last one. It's truly astonishing what people can accomplish in a matter of days!
No exception here: Its simple visuals are perfect for a game where you can only ever see a fraction of the screen. It features a clever gameplay concept, and the levels are randomly generated, which leads to high replay value. Definitely a case of a cool idea implemented well. -
Great pick! A good reminder that I should play that game again!
-
Thanks for picking my game. I think this was one of my better game jam efforts, maybe a bit on the hard side though.
-
Thanks for picking this one, I need another look at it.

I feel like this game went rather unnoticed, which is a huge shame. That "Shoot the aliens" gameplay is simple yet addictive, and you always feel the pressure of losing your protection barriers.
And I got to add, these pixel graphics and the background look stylized as heck! -
oh! I totally missed this one. Need to check it out
