BG color in image editor

What is the point for the BG color in the image editor I can’t figure out what it does I would assume it’s to change the color of the background so you can see a dark image better. But it does nothing at least I think it does nothing

The only time I use it is when filling shapes (eg using the circle tool), they're filled in with the bg colour.

Ohhhhhh well I like what I thought it was better lol

Its also useful to set opacity and go over your sprite/drawing to shade match all your pixels
