-
THEME ANNOUNCEMENT: LIGHT
The theme is up! Let's see what we can do with this open-ended theme. I have been given a few cool ideas which will almost certainly be making their way into the next GameJam, but for this one I wanted to go with a theme I've wanted to use for a while.
Good luck and see you Sunday!
You know the drill folks! Next FUZE GameJam is happening!
Rules are the same as ever:

Steve's idea :you provide the sprite/sprites or model/models to be used.
:sky land sea.
:80's retro -
@Dave a possible idea for the future, how about a week long gamejam? 48hrs just flies by so quick. maybe even a one off week one for Fuze's first anniversary?
-
@SteveZX81 Quite a nice idea. I'm open to that, I'll have a think about it!
-
@waldron so you mean instead of a theme? because the idea is awesome, and would be a great change of pace
-
@CasualTie5 cant take credit for that, steves awesome idea that
-
The theme should be, vacationing/holiday!
-
...or maybe “back to work”!
-
-
I will second the “holiday” theme idea - let’s all pretend we were able to take one this year!
And also the extended time - the last one took over my entire weekend (not that it wasn’t fun). -
I hope this is not too silly of a question: Are we "allowed" to start with a base code framework - for example, a "boilerplate" generic game loop, generic controller functions, things like that? I ask because I did not manage to get further than that in the last game jam... Either way, I hope to join in next week!
-
Well, yes and no. It's not really in the spirit of things to start with too much code, but who's going to know? I think realistically, please just be sensible about it. Last time round I managed to break my own guidance without even really thinking about it because I copied a function in from one of my other programs for drawing fonts from tiled images. Did it without thinking.
I don't think anyone is going to expect you to re-create that kind of thing, just for the sake of it or you'll never get anywhere in 48 hours, but if you have a template that has a complete text adventure set up (just to use an example) that all you have to do is write the story, then that's not really allowed.
-
Thank you, @Martin. That makes sense!
-
I nominate “seafood” as the game jam theme.
Think of the possibilities!
-
@vinicity I like it! Even though Dave won't pick it.
-
I can't make it this time. But I wish you all good luck and endurance. I am looking very much forward for the presentation video and the always inspiring content. 👍
-
stupid question, but "light" as in "not heavy" or "visibility"?
both might be cool soo... -
@CasualTie5 I believe this is why the theme is one word each time, because you can spin it however you want and gives more variety.
-
I can’t come up with anything (that I can make)
-
@LinkCraft maybe think of a genre you like and find a way to have Light as the theme? e.g. you like racing games, so you make a light-speed racer? something like that
