Fuze Player reviews!

@Retrocade_media as well as fruitopia i like both very much.

Nice to see though, that even though that commenter trashed some of the games, he liked others. He put genial chess in the ‘not worth playing or even mentioning by name’ pile, while the reviewer said it was possibly worth getting for genial chess alone! So the variety seems to be doing some good :)
I have a criticism, and it’s one that can be made more broadly about the things I’ve seen made with Fuze, and it’s that loads of stuff is just too hard! Like ‘game over in 2 seconds’ hard. Apparently it’s common for amateur-developed games that are developer-playtested to be too hard because we spend so much time playing while testing and tweaking the difficulty up when it gets too easy for us. And we know exactly how to play and all the secrets. It’s offputting for newcomers..

Unfortunately I think some people may feel like they have the right to criticize a product they pay for (even if it's one dollar), and probably not even realize the impact of their words on the creators. Of course this is not fair, because the games that made it to the player are absolutely awesome. But at the same time I can't blame them, because their context and perspective is very different. I mean, just think about all the critical feedback that FUZE has received over time. Consumers are spoiled.
Personally I do hope that the FUZE Player reaches a wider audience, but unfortunately that will probably mean that there will be more negative comments as well. On top of that, the people who enjoyed a game may be less likely to leave a comment than people who are annoyed by something.
It's very natural to feel bad when a random person says that your creation is rubbish, but that should never be a reason for you to be any less proud. Every single game that made it to the player is a creation that someone put a lot of work in. All are people who have put in the effort to learn the FUZE language, and then also complete a project in that language. To do that in your free time, requires a mindset that many don't have. And you should be proud of it, no matter what people say about it.
We can't choose what people say about our creations, when we put them out there. But we can choose how we deal with that. When I initially shared Patience Solitaire, someone (not mentioning names here) basically said: "I detest your code" (not those exact words, but I don't want to give too much context and it captures the essence of it). I definitely was offended by it, and in part he gave criticism that was simply not true or sometimes very subjective.
However, he also pointed at some parts in my code that could definitely be improved. So I also took it as an opportunity that this person cared enough about my creation to roast it, to improve what I created.
And I think that is a good lesson to learn in life overall. Since there are plenty of negative people out there that we may bump into once in a while. It's not worth to loose our confidence or pride when someone is negative while being only partially right. Don't let negative words bring you down, while the writer of them doesn't even remember writing them. And still, it might be an opportunity to learn. Not by just doing what the critics say (that's not a good idea), but they might also help you see things that you didn't see yourself. And that you might want to improve yourself now that you are aware of it..

How the heck can someone say Fuzeotron is s***. That's the most ridiculous and ignorant statement I've heard since - I don't know when. All the games demonstrate the versatility and possibilities that Fuze4 has to offer and if the examples don't encourage the user to download the full version then all I can say is that they are missing out big time.
On a side note, I would like to have seen Spaceship Interior, Sound FX Generator, Invader, Where's Colin (A masterpiece!) and 3D Visual Demo included. Any chance?
I've got a few ideas floating about brain wise but lack the time at the mo. Simple Spreadsheet, Database, Scientific Calculator, Moon's Phases, Home Finances.
I realize that these suggestions are not graphically based but they would allow Fuze4 to reach out to a wider audience. Just a thought.
A Scientific Calculator would be a doddle and would turn the Switch into something useful !! Sorry, didn't really mean that.
If a move towards utility type programs were tried I believe this would help push sales. To a non programmer a look at one of the example's code and it's length could scare the pants off a beginner. My brain certainly bursts with a quick read of some of the example code and I've been programming since the PDP-8 days (1970). Maybe a collection of short code segments could be included. Just brain storming. Fuze4's sales pitch should be to encourage not to discourage and 2869 lines of Fuzeotron code doesn't make for easy reading. A mere mortal might be impressed with the end result but how that was achieved would pass him/her by.
A few simple tools would enable one to build a house, but first you need to watch how bricks are laid first of all.
The future for Fuze4 looks great. -
Brilliant - this is exactly what it's all about. We will never please all the people all the time, that is written in law. I think in the case of FUZEOTRON however they've not understood the controls or something.. I mean what's not to like!!
Actually though, on a totally personal level - I am so incredibly proud of what we have all achieved here. From teamFUZE to everyone involved in the community and especially those with Showcase Gallery submissions. Folks, you have just had your games published on the world's best selling console - this cannot be denied! I mean, you are even getting review comments to prove it.. Many of you were not, and perhaps even are still not, advanced coders, and yet you've achieved something only a tiny percentage of the population will ever do.
So, what are you going to do next?
-
No such thing as bad publicity 😎

Watch a film and drink far too much wine. Although I'm guessing that might not be quite what you meant ;)
-
What am I going to do next?
Well I'm working on a new Fuze game (space game) also I'm being a total pig and eating a custard filled doughnut ..oh and I'm playing a little Cyberpunk 2077 and Wizard of Wor which i'm still crazy about!So.. what's Jon doing next?

What @Jonboy says here cannot be over-stated. He will know, because I told him as much that "Writing a game" has been one of my bucket list items since getting a ZX81 back at the age of 12. I hadn't considered it being a published game. Despite it not being listed, I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of my games was actually in the Showcase for the player, and therefore like he says, not only does that strike that off my bucket list, but it was published on the Nintendo Switch to boot. Woohoo!
What most people won't know is that despite being a member of Team Fuze (a somewhat quiet one of late), and despite making my living as a programmer for over 30 years now, I'd never successfully written a game. And the beauty of it is that it's an ongoing thing - so people can still get their games into the player for the world to see at any time!!

Happy New Year Folks....
My New Year's resolution is to convince the FUZE community to write...
A Pinball simulator
A 3D Racer
Finish my own 2D Racer
More puzzle games (I mean no Sudoku, Mahjong pair games, no Othello... come on guys!)
Definitely more platform games
More arcade classics
Where on Earth is Thrust / Gravitar
Where's Mr Do, Bombjack and Tempest FK
And for goodness sake folks... No Gauntlet!!!!!Let alone 2D Shootem ups - Gradius, Salamander, R-Type and Axelay!!
I shan't speak of New Zealand Story, Wardener, Shinobi, Varth and Crazy Balloon.
And nothing of Galaxian, Moon Cresta or Galaga or Astro Blaster for that matter...
And since FUZE Quest was so rudely removed is no one going to take its place - or what about Dungeon Master or hey... Populous.
Did I say Arkanoid (actually I was thinking about a Ponganoid - just in case anyone needed inspiration)..
How about 3D Berzerk (so easy) or Defender.
Oh, and Pool!
Ok, that will do for January.
love to all.
Jonnyboy.
-
uhhhh Jon has given me a dozen ideas.
-
He didn’t mention Bubble Bobble.
-
-
That's what i'm talking about - but what about horizontal two player... i.e... Ponganoid... come on, you know there's a game there...
-
They don't like some games, but did they look at the code ?
Here we have diversity, creativity. We don't want to play always the same game (FPS or metroidvania clones).
Happy new year to Fuze community. -
Happy New Year everyone. Loving these supportive and exciting comments.
I refrained from commenting here for a while, since if I'm being genuinely honest, that comment from YouTube upset me probably more than it should. It's very hard not to let a rubbish opinion like that get to you, expressed with absolutely zero awareness of the hard work, time, love and determination that go into each project. It comes across to me as an entitled, self obsessed outlook that everything is in the world to entertain them. Something leads me to believe they probably wouldn't have the determination, passion or courage to create a game of their own and share it with others. I had to fight the urge to jump on and be a keyboard warrior. But, it really is not something to even pay attention to. Any opinion expressed without thoughtfulness should be dismissed without it too.
The jury is already out on how "good" the games are. Fuzeotron is the business. This community makes that obvious. The support we provide to each other, the motivation this creates to create, learn and express ourselves - this is the important thing. Our community seems to be among the best out there for this.
Anyway, let's have a great year. There are some cool things coming, folks. :)

I did a pixel perfect Arkanoid clone about a month or two back but it wasn't in Fuze so I won't post it here :D
