The Longest Drive

looking great. possible ideas not stolen from (burnout)...
add 4 lanes 2 way traffic then get a speed boost when on the oncoming traffic side triggered with a boost button. just a thought :) -

Looks great! Just a question: Are the player’s car driving overtaking slower cars, or are you actually driving in the wrong direction on a one way road?
The latter could be rather dangerous.
Yeah, the other (enemy) cars are driving towards the player car. If the player car comes to a halt when you don't give gas or breaked they keep driving towards you. You could indeed say the player is driving on a one way road in the opposite direction :)
I don't think i'll be able to add overtaking in the correct direction ;)

I'm not sure i'll be able to add same way traffic direction. Once an enemy player is behind the player it just gets resets in front of the player.
I'm thinking of doing wav like thing like every 5 cars you successfully passed without crashing add a new car up until a maximum. I might also add other objects on the street like a traffic cone that when hit temporary slows you down
-
@joyrider3774 if you did want to add that you could have half the screen X co-ords reading oncoming traffic like a in and out 2 way function. Just a suggestion either way it's a fantastic first 3d project with lots of potential.

not much progress, i ran into some problems with the code and fuze but all investigated now and fixed.
these are the changes:
- lots of internal code refactoring
- switched road tile
- added background environment (i was not aware there some build in)
- added extra camera views which you can switch between
-
That looks really good! You should add in some turns!

Hello, Here is a new progress report. Lots has changed like:
- Switched enemy direction (same as player now)
- added fuel
- added segmentbars for fuel and speed
- added taillights (toxibunny suggested this)
- added speed optimasation to not call objectpointat if the objects angle has not changed
- switcht to use objectpointat instead of rotating the object and undoing the rotation at each frame
- ....

Nice to see how this game has evolved, looks nice and fun to play. I like the occasional bird flying over as well :)
-
@PB____ ah yeah i forgot to mention the birds :) indeed there are 2 eagles flying over horizontally randomly at certain times. I also added a parralell to the road little flying bird. I really hope adding sounds does not strain cpu that much or i might have to lower enemy cars once more. Have not been able to change / increase speed with the enemy vs enemy detection everything i try seems to fail :)

During the weekend i worked some more on the 3d car racing game and I have found a name for it ... "The Longest Drive".
I added my menu system from the Retro Time game, music and sound as well as some difficulty settings. There are 3 difficulty settings defining minimum and maximum traffic. I also implemented @spikey 's Highscore system. The game is nearly finished now, only a few small additions here and there like adding credits, saving options along with the highscores and doing some playtesting.
Here's a video with the latest changes

Looks great!
-
I can't wait to play it!
-
Cool, the street lights add a nice effect.
-
@Dinocoder yeah initially the cars had lights as well but they are not easily noticeable and it was causing speed issues. I also initially used a worldshadowlight but that still has a memory leak so i use normal worldlight

Hey guys,
I finally released it, it should be live if i looked correctly in fuze app but it's not displayed yet in the catologue. The download Code is NXKZ1BR7XD
Have fun

Awesome game! I love it!
