WIP: 3D game with dinosaurs
-
@Keliot reminds me of serious Sam
-
@Retrocade_media Only needs a screaming kamikaze dino
-
-
That looks really awesome :D I like how you’ve got the rocks sticking up to give the illusion that it’s all still there. Quality update :)
-
@toxibunny Thank you, glad you like it
-
Looks really good, other than some minor pop-in due to the way you're improving performance. I would recommend putting some form of fog around the player just before that pop-in to cover it up, as this will be especially noticeable if you ever have a long corridor made of multiple rooms
-
I don’t think fog’s going to go so well. The alpha transparency in Fuze 3d is weird... A little bit of pop-up is fine, imho..
-
I wouldn’t worry about the pop-in.
Keep it up, looking good. -
@Retrocade_media Thank you. Yes pop-in is a problem with this method. Would be great if Fuze had a build-in fog function.
-
@Keliot just have to tell you, since I showed your first few vids to my son to show him what others do with Fuze he asks me from time to time, out of the blue if that dinosaurs game is already available for downloading. 😄
-
@spikey Wow that's nice to hear. I won't let little spikey down :D
-
These developments are exceptional - well done @Keliot you've done an incredible job. This project will no doubt be a... roaring success :)
-
Wow @Keliot this is incredible.
I had a few thoughts on the performance. You could possibly reduce to the visible rooms to two if you had solid fences in each entrance / exit. These could open when you're close and close when you're a certain distance away. It would even allow for just one visible room until you are close.
Other ideas: drawing a very thin transparent plane (very thin stretched cube!) might provide a fog effect. Multiple ones could be used for longer distances.
I am only suggesting these in case the addition of monsters running around and various other objects, collisions and AI etc. will of course slow things down.
Also consider, there's nothing wrong with targeting 30FPS. So many games, even today run at less than 60.
Many games run at much lower resolutions than we expect. Dropping down to 1280x720 even when docked is Ok. But you'd might be surprised to see how many games actually run at 940x540 and much lower. If you doubt this, check Fortnight, Doom, The Witcher and so on.
Finally, FUZE will get faster on the Switch. We're working on the Bytecode implementation which will help on the CPU side of things. So where you are currently being hit when accessing a lot of arrays and variables in loops this will improve very significantly.
My two cents worth..
-
@Jonboy Thank you for your great suggestions. The one with the fences is surely something to try out.
Yes you're right there's nothing wrong with a game running below 60. I was trying to eliminate things which have unnecessary impact on the perfomance because, as you mentioned, the dinos will devour the CPU with their AI and collision detection. -
-
Really impressive stuff, glad you’ve continued with it! Did you have any trouble with the changes from the update patch?
-
Incredible - this is looking really special. Please, please, please keep on going!
-
@toxibunny Thank you and no, surprisingly not. After the update the cliffs weren't placed and I had to add 'ref' to that function. This was the only problem that appeared after the update.
-
@Keliot I just cannot stop watching these clips. This is incredibly exciting.. Let me get my hands on this! Glad to hear you didn't have much of an issue transitioning to the new patch.
Eagerly waiting your updates!

Wow Incredible game! Can't wait till it releases :)
