Adventures in text
-
I used to love text adventures but man I was terrible at them, Philosophers Quest on the BBC took me over 6 months to complete and I was playing every day!
The first thing I do in any text adventure though is to type xyzzy and see what happens ;) -
@SteveZX81 I usually started by typing a swear word. Most text adventures had amusing replies to that.

Got the input/output and UI stuff done (for now). Now I can actually start writing the game engine.
@SteveZX81 I don't think I ever finished Philosopher's Quest. It was a pretty cruel game and if I remember correctly you could lose it the second you stepped out of the first room, but not know it until later. Even to this day it's on my list of things to go back and finish.

Looks great! When you have got the engine running, I really want to make an adventure too!
-
@vinicity You're welcome to add me on the Switch if you want to follow its development, I'll PM my friend code. Also if anyone else wants it let me know (I just don't want to post it publicly).
Bear in mind that it's in very early development and I have plenty of things planned, but I'm open to suggestions for what you'd want the game engine to be able to do.

@chiizujin any thoughts on adding in images or short animations, and have you played/heard of the dark room
-
@waldron That's possibly an idea for the future but for now it's text-based.
As for The Dark Room, if you mean the Steam early access game based on the live show then no (except yes now). It looks like an interesting idea but to be honest I wasn't sure which part of the video was the actual game (if any).

@chiizujin I went to the live show last year and ended up buying the game it is fun but a bit to short, basically each choice presents you with 4 choices so on and branches from there. I love text adventures just thought the odd image screen or foe popping up adds so much to that style of game either way can't wait to play it

Very good indeed!
