Keyboard connection
-
Hi All,
I'm having trouble getting my keyboard to work without using the dock. I'd like to be able to use Fuze on the go and not have to use the on-screen keyboard. I bought a usb-c adapter and I'm not sure if it's my keyboard or the adapter? I noticed there is an image on the frontpage of this website that shows it's possible (unless it's just a picture for marketing). If anyone can point to what actually works product wise or if I'm missing something that would be great! Thanks!

can you try in the dock, that should confirm if it's the keyboard or the adaptor

Oh good point the keyboard works in the dock, but also the adapter works when plugging my keyboard into my macbook. Is there a specific adapter that works best for nintendo switch?

For the adapter I’ve been using the official Apple one (I bought a couple when they were half price) and a generic unbranded one that came with something f else that I don’t remember. Both work fine.
For keyboards all the USB ones I’ve tried have worked.

Ok, thanks, I'll give that a try.

I have the external keyboard, it needs a USB dongle, but the switch has a USB type "C",
it would work if you put the USB dongle in Nitendo switch Dock, if you want to plug the dongle
into the Nitendo switch itself, you need an adaptor with the female USB and male type "C"
on the other end.. -
Yea the Nintendo switch has a USB-C input but barely any products work directly like that. you need a USB-C to USB-A adapter and use USB products when undocked. You can also use an ethernet cable BUT you have to go from USB to USB-C

The adaptor was only $1.50, thats not to bad in price...

The Dobe wireless keyboard : 1) Works only with the dongle pluged in, 2) Has no cursor keys (have to touchnscreen to get to a new line).
Very glitchy and troublesome.. -
I made a post in the Hints and Tips topic regarding this, but here is a short version of which adapters I have found to work undocked:
IHome USB-C to USB-A adapter (this is the one I'm currently using)
AmazonBasics USB Type-C to USB 3.1 Gen1 Female Adapter Cable
Nintendo Switch Lite Dual USB Playstand By HORI - Officially Licensed by Nintendo (also works for the regular Switch)
HORI Nintendo Switch Multiport USB PlaystandThese are the two keyboards I use with my switch that work fully:
Logitec K360 (wireless with small USB-A dongle)
Magiforce 68 Key mechanical keyboard (wired, USB-A)In general I would avoid keyboards with lots of extra functionality or anything that might draw too much power (anything that might require more than a standard HID driver or that has a lot of lights or USB ports that might drain your battery or require more power than the switch will provide).
