Help with pixel art

Can someone explain me how to do sunshine effect on the grass ? It's maybe not the best forum for this type of question, but I know that some people here draw in pixel art, for me it's my first time, I was like "Hey go put some white pixel and it will be done !" but it just seems like if I put mayonnaise on the grass...

I'm the same as you but perhaps try just a very slightly lighter shade of green to the rest of it?

That's what I tried on the very left side but... I don't notice any changement, maybe I should try a lighter green...

@Willpowered I think we might need you on this one dude!

https://craftpix.net/product/pixel-art-forest-2d-backgrounds/ you can look at these for example.
They didsome sort of fade from light green to a darker green, and i think the shadows play a big role in it too, like the upper grass throwing shadows on the lower grass -
@Jaywalker I'll take a leaf out of this, ty !

I'd go with more of a green as opposed to more of a yellow. If you want to add more colors you could transition to a light yellow for the extreme highlights.
Here's one of my favorite pixel art palette tutorials, which might give some more insight on choosing colors: http://i.imgur.com/rBaCG9N.png

If this was something like aseprite, id say just use a gray scale, add opacity and slap it on top... but... im assuming in this the opacity pixel will just replace the bottom pixel... so... what you Could do... start a base in the middle of the color, then just move the slider up and down depending on the lightness / darkness you need...

Thanks everybody !
