I swear you grew up in the same town as me! (mine was Minehead in Somerset). So when do we get Mr Do, Bomb Jack, Gauntlet, Marble Madness, Track and Field, Galaxian, Arkanoid, Rally X, and and and...
I've lived in Blackpool since 1973 mate, I was here at the dawn of arcade games and it sparked a lifelong passion. (although nothing has yet beaten the sheer sound and atmosphere of walking into an arcade with around 120 Space Invaders machines all being played at once. The sound was both deafening and glorious!)
You listed some gems and as Mr Do! is possibly my fave arcade game ever (alongside Berzerk and Wizard of Wor) I'd dearly love to do it, but it's beyond my skill level. I'd only attempt it when I believe I could do it justice!

Oh, trust me, we know that feeling!! Although maybe not quite that many it was still pretty damn awesome around here in the lates 70's to early 80's

An update.
New additions:-
Player score added
Bonus boxes added (plus and minus both points and bullets)
B.o.n.u.s letters added per player (light up all the letters for a massive bonus but hitting the same letter twice will remove it!)
Points for the 'pipes' starts at 500 and counts down to a min 100.Progress is slow but we're getting there.
As for the diving ducks "eating" your ammo when they reach the bottom row, I'm unsure if I will add them or not, I mean its a four player game so who do you take the ammo off?
Also I'm toying with giving the background an image or colour. not sure I'm fond of the black.
-
@SteveZX81 I prefer the black personally, for whatever that's worth-- it fits with the minimalistic arcade game motif, plus a background would just confuse the eyes I think.

Good point and I fully agree. (the only reason I was considering something else is my old eyes, the contrast with a pure black bg is a pain at times.)
-
@SteveZX81 Oh, I see what you mean! You could try a very dark gray, to lighten it up a bit-- would maintain the game's character, while making it easier on the eyes?

Was hoping to finish this over the last couple of days but sadly again I stumbled and am struggling but so so close to finishing it.
Just cannot get the targets to reset. was going to give up but am going to attack it tomorrow from a new direction.

What you have made here is just fantastic. I seem to remember playing a version of this way back in the mists of time on my uncles Commodore VIC-20. I loved it then and I love what I am seeing here in your video.
-
Looking forward to taking this for a spin Steve! If you reach the point of no return then let me know because I'll spend some time helping you sort this rather than see it getting completely stuck
-
I see I haven't yet replied to this topic, even though I've been following it and I'm looking forward to play it. It looks fun :)
-
Thanks, its currently in pending so perhaps sometime today or tomorrow it'll be available to play ..and mock ;)
-
Game is now live, the code is: MU463MND9D
Its a long long way from polished and lots of the code/functions are quite poor and could be far shorter and much neater.
I did enjoy working on it most of the time but after it got to a certain size, my brain was spinning and I kept forgetting what things were, so its lacking certain things that I would have liked to add and it's most probably got bugs but hey. you might get two mins fun out of it. -
Really nice, thanks for sharing :) works as advertised ;)
Ok, so now the mocking :P
I added the following code at the very start, just to prevent me from accidentally closing the game right after starting it (loading takes a while and I was too impatient):textSize(100) printAt(7, 3, "loading...") update()
EDIT: After playing it a little more, I can still say it is a really nice game! I feel like you know best what you want to improve, so I think I'm telling nothing new if I say I hoped to fire my last bullet to get more bullets, but it directly ended the game in stead :)
-
Thanks and yes Martin also spotted that.
v1.3 has been submitted with two changes1 - loading message (thanks PB__)
2 - the game now ends AFTER your last shot hits, not when its fired (thanks Martin) -
I just reshared the game and it is in pending again. at the request of the fuze guys (and I fully understand why) I have changed the duck, rabbit, owl graphics so they are different from the arcade game.
Quite frankly I have mixed feelings, whilst I totally understand and support their decision. the game with different graphics seems to lack the feel of the original. it's just not quite the same.
-
Is it an arcade machine game? I assumed your game was a digital interperation of the actual shooting game ppl play at carnivals tbh (which I would not expect to have any copyright)
-
Yeah its an arcade game that came out I believe in 1982.
Not sure if I can post youtube links but I'll try.
-
@SteveZX81 ah ye, ye I totally get it now.
-
v1.41 now live. just a minor fix.
I used my Switch docked 99% of the time but when the wife played it in handheld last night, I saw that the loading messsage didn't display right.
